Report
Report provided:
1. Primary Purpose Area has moved to St. Cecilia’s at 535 Rhawn Street in Philadelphia in the school cafeteria. We continue to meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month from noon – 2pm
2. Primary Purpose will be making a contribution to the Region in the amount of $71.00 in person at the Regional session.
3. We are holding our annual H&I workshop on Saturday 5 December: The Future of H&I. It is already on the calendar but the location will change and there is some text that is incorrect, so we will sort that out with the IT team when the location is confirmed (hopefully before we meet in person in August). The updated flier will be shared before the October regional session and we will bring physical fliers to the October regional session to share with everyone.
4. We will be scheduling another (brainstorming) workshop for March 2027: Sharing Resources on the Area Subcommittee level. We will add this to the calendar as soon as its date is confirmed. If there are any Areas that wish to participate in organizing this brainstorming session, you are welcome to do so. Please communicate your interest to Merle S (Primary Purpose RCM).
5. Primary Purpose wishes to reiterate that understanding how and where Areas and Groups purchase literature (including medallions and keytags) matters in regards to shipping costs, time taken to receive orders, and the difference in cost for Areas (which receive discounts) and Groups (which do not) when purchasing from NAWS, the Free State RSO, or the GNYRSO (the two RSOs closest to GPRNA). This knowledge falls under the category of being fiscally prudent and responsible.
6. Primary Purpose Area wishes to understand the GPRNA policy for distributing Basic Texts that are donated to the East Coast regions from ECCNA each year.
a. How is the quantity of BTs given to each Area H&I subcommittee from the regional H&I subcommittee calculated?
b. How are those BTs distributed to the facilities of each Area (as we aren’t giving BTs directly to addicts)?
c. Who actually receives those BTs?
d. How many Areas in GPRNA have prisons into which H&I presentations are brought?
e. What happens to BTs that are given to hospitals, rehabs, etc?
f. Is it more fiscally sound to recommend to ECCNA that they use the moneys raised to purchase Introductory Guides, as at least 3 times more of those can be purchased, which means more provided to each H&I regional subcommittee to disburse amongst the Areas?
g. Are there guidelines for the GPRNA H&I subcommittee to rely on, regarding our participation – from providing accurate information to ECCNA to the receipt of and disbursement of books, regardless of who is chairing the regional subcommittee?
Primary Purpose Area would be interested in knowing whether anyone else has questions and thoughts about this and whether this could be a regional discussion at some point.
ILS,
Merle S, Primary Purpose RCM
